Increasing Productivity:
Imagine you and your roommate are relocating to two different locations. You need to move out next month. Since you have been living in this place for over 2 years, you have accumulated quite a few things so you start packing immediately. You come home after work and start packing every day moving things from here to there and there to here.
While you are doing this, your roommate sits quietly without moving a single thing of his. After 20 days of daily packing, you still have things to pack. You give extra time on weekends and try to squeeze in packing in your daily routine.
Your roommate starts packing on the last weekend of moving and gets the job done in under two days. How does he manage to do it in two days whereas you are struggling for a month?
PARKINSONS LAW:
Work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion.
While you were packing things for a month, you have also been checking your phone, watching videos, and feeling nostalgic about the things you purchased. Whereas, your friend allotted two days to the specific task and completed it without distraction.
TIME BOXING:
This is the method used to increase productivity. Time Boxing means allotting a fixed time for a particular task in your day. Allot a specific time for a specific task to complete.
Instead of planning to read 50 pages of notes today, allot a specific time to it. “I will read 50 pages notes from 10 am to 12 pm. So after 12 pm, you are not allowed to read the notes. This gives a sense of completion of tasks under certain time limits. This ensures that you do not spend too much time on any specific task more than it demands.
